Cody, Wyoming USA – August 6, 2008. The Board of Directors of the Foundation for North American Wild Sheep (FNAWS) by Board Resolution during their July Board of Directors meeting in Cody officially adopted a trade name and shall begin operating on a day-to-day basis as the Wild Sheep Foundation (WSF.)
The corporation shall continue to be formerly known and may operate for certain purposes as the Foundation for North American Wild Sheep, but shall discontinue the general use of that name in favor of the Wild Sheep Foundation trade name.
“We launched the new name in the fall of 2007 and the new logo at our 2008 convention held in Salt Lake City in February” Board Chairman Louis Rupp stated. “We have met with our chapters, consulted with our members and all have agreed that the new name suits our North American and international foundation well. Many of our chapters are now reviewing and working towards changing their names from “FNAWS” chapters to “WSF” chapters. The new trade name will help us launch a new beginning for our fine Foundation.”
“The Wild Sheep Foundation trade name and contemporary logo reflects our expanding focus beyond the borders of North America” offered WSF President & CEO, Gray Thornton. “We have recently announced and are reviewing strategic alliances and partnerships with international bodies such as Rowland Ward in North America and Africa and the International Council for Game & Wildlife Conservation (CIC) in Europe. The Wild Sheep Foundation name reflects our long standing FNAWS family purpose of “Putting and Keeping Wild Sheep on the Mountain” while enabling us to work with these and other partners to duplicate internationally our exceptional and continuing sheep restoration efforts in the USA, Canada and Mexico.”
Since forming in 1977, the Wild Sheep Foundation and its chapters have raised and expended more than $70 million on programs benefiting wild sheep, other wildlife and their critical habitat.
